Global warming hits insurance sector - by IŞIL SARIYÜCE
Global warming is no more an issue that concerns just a group of idealist environmentalists. Insurers are on the way to joining forces with environmentalists in an effort to stop global warming before it becomes irreversible. Although environmentalists are still skeptical of their intentions, insurance companies may become their main allies, since big insurance firms are becoming increasingly aware of the threats of global warming as they have been hit hard economically by the consequences of climate change.
The newest victim of global warming is insurance companies' profits, which have been hard hit by its effects. As a result, international insurance firms are pioneering efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions -- which cause global warming -- and are lobbying governments internationally to join their cause.
