US U.N. Ambassador Bolton to step down
From the wires: "Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his recess appointment expires soon, the White House said Monday. Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans." Reuters reports the departure could come later this week.
President Bush had named Bolton as a temporary recess appointment in August 2005, and he renominated Bolton immediately after elections in November. The chances of Bolton's approval at that point were low,
