Singapore's Tiger Airways to buy 20 Airbus A320s
Singapore budget carrier Tiger Airways said Tuesday it had exercised an option to buy 20 Airbus A320 aircraft worth 1.3 billion US dollars. European manufacturer Airbus said in October that Tiger had signed a contract for 30 medium-range, single-aisle A320s, with 20 more on option. The 20 extra aircraft are for delivery by 2016, Tiger Airways chief executive Tony Davis told reporters. In a separate statement, Airbus said Tiger "has signed a contract with Airbus for an additional 20 A320s." Airbus said Tiger currently operates a fleet of 12 A320s, with eight more to be delivered by 2010. The carrier plans to have 70 by 2016 as it expands its Asia-Pacific network.
