The 97th Tour de France starts today, the 3rd July 2010 in Rotterdam. The first day is the prolouge, a short ride around the city of Rotterdam, before the race starts tommorrow with the first stage from Rotterdam to Brussels. Running from Saturday July 3rd to Sunday July 25th 2010, the 97th Tour de France will be made up of 1 prologue and 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,642 kilometres.
The 2010 Tour will be launched from the south side of Rotterdam, for a prologue time-trial. The launching pad will actually be set up in Zuidplein, from where the riders will move north.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first cycle race in the Pyrenees and to mark this there are five stages in the Pyrenees with no less than two accents of the famous Col de Tourmalet.
