The European Commission has announced the reopening of national emissions registries in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia and the UK after ceasing trading last month.
All transactions, except the allocation and surrender of allowances, were halted across the whole EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) last month following the latest in a series of security breaches resulting in the theft of an estimated two million allowances.
The first five national registries will resume normal operations at 8 am (Central European Time) on 4 February after the EC received confirmation that minimum levels of cyber security are in place.
