Renewable energy is generating thousands of jobs in the southern part of the United States, including Florida, according to a report released Thursday. Researchers also found jobs involving "green" energy and products pay higher wages than those in other sectors.
Seven out of the 21 U.S. states that have at least 50,000 "clean economy" jobs are located in the South, the report by the Brookings Institution found, though California has the highest number of those jobs overall, at 318,156.
Among Southern states with at least 50,000 jobs in the sector, Texas has 144,081 jobs, followed by Florida with 102,967 jobs, and then Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
