ISIS: Hacker Group Anonymous Announces 'Biggest Operation' Against ISIS After Paris Attacks

The Hacker group Anonymous declared "total war" on the Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group on Sunday following the wave of attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people and left dozens more in a critical condition.

A masked, French-speaking figure with a distorted voice is shown reading a statement from the group in the two-minute-long YouTube video. Clips from the attacks in Paris are shown in the video.

"War is declared. Get prepared," the masked figure says in the video in reference to ISIS. "The French people are stronger than you and will come out of this atrocity even stronger. Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down. You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go. We will launch the biggest operation ever against you."

The escalation in Anonymous's operation against ISIS comes after at least seven suspected attackers carried out gun and bomb attacks against a number of civilian targets across the French capital, leaving 352 wounded and at least 99 in a critical condition. French police are continuing a manhunt for a man they believe took part in the attacks, identified as 26-year-old Salah Abdeslam.

Anonymous has targeted ISIS for a number of months, revealing the Twitter accounts of ISIS members and hacking a number of the group's sites. U.S. magazine Foreign Policy estimates that the group has dismantled at least 149 of the extremist group's affiliated websites, flagged approximately 101,000 Twitter accounts and nearly 6,000 propaganda videos.

Censorship Wars: Anonymous Hackers Turn Attention to Europe's Acta - by Allastair Stevenson

"PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR GOVERNMENTS - GOVERNMENTS SHOULD BE AFRAID OF THEIR PEOPLE"

Following its high profile protest against the US' Sopa and Pipa acts, the hacker cell of Anonymous has shifted its focus onto Europe's Acta.

Little is currently known about the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (Acta) past that it aims to establish international standards on the enforcement of intellectual property. Currently being ratified by the European Union, numerous member states including Ireland have already joined the US, Australia, Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and Canada in supporting Acta.

Anonymous vows 'cyberwar' on US, businesses - by Michael Isikoff

A leader of the computer hackers group known as Anonymous is threatening new attacks on major U.S. corporations and government officials as part of at an escalating “cyberwar” against the citadels of American power.

“It’s a guerilla cyberwar — that’s what I call it,” said Barrett Brown, 29, who calls himself a senior strategist and “propagandist” for Anonymous. He added: “It’s sort of an unconventional, asymmetrical act of warfare that we’ve involved in. And we didn’t necessarily start it. I mean, this fire has been burning.”

A defiant and cocky 29-year-old college dropout, Brown was cavalier about accusations that the group is violating federal laws. He insisted that Anonymous members are only policing corporate and governmental wrongdoing — as its members define it.

The group known as Anonymous reportedly formed around 2003 as an outgrowth of the influential Internet message board 4chan, a forum popular with hackers and gamers. The group's name came from the early days of 4chan, when a post to its forums where no name was given listed the author as "Anonymous." A spokesman for the group, identified only as “Coldblood” told Britain’s Guardian newspaper in December that the group has about 1,000 members, many of them teenagers. When appearing in web videos, members have disguised themselves with Guy Fawkes masks popularized by the book and film “V for Vendetta.”

Note EU-Digest: Anonymous apparently has done commendable work in assisting the freedom fighters in Tunisia, Egypt and other Middle East countries.
