USA: Trump’s attempted coup continues – even after January 6 hearings are over for now

The House of Representatives’ select committee investigating the January 6 attack has finished its hearings, at least for now.

But Trump’s attempted coup continues.

He has not stopped giving speeches to stir up angry mobs with his big lie that the 2020 election was stolen. He gave another fiery address Friday evening in Arizona.

Russian Genocide continues: Mariupol's dead put at 5,000 as Ukraine braces in the east

The mayor of the besieged port city of Mariupol put the number of civilians killed there at more than 5,000 Wednesday, as Ukraine collected evidence of Russian atrocities on the ruined outskirts of Kyiv and braced for what could become a climactic battle for control of the country’s industrial east.

Ukrainian authorities continued gathering up the dead in shattered towns outside the capital amid telltale signs Moscow’s troops killed civilians indiscriminately before retreating over the past several days.

In other developments, the U.S. and its Western allies moved to impose new sanctions against the Kremlin over what they branded war crimes.

The Netherlands: Roads and trains disrupted, schools shut as winter grips the Netherlands

The wintry weather continued to cause problems on the roads and railways on Monday morning. No newspapers have been delivered and primary schools remain closed in many places, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Leiden, due to the transport problems. They were due to open on Monday after six weeks of closure due to coronavirus.

The KNMI weather bureau has revised down its weather warning to code orange because of the continuing slippery conditions, but both motoring organisation ANWB and the transport ministry’s roads department say people should avoid all travel unless their journey is absolutely necessary.
