Iran's president warns Donald Trump he'll regret it if he ends nuclear deal

President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday Iran had plans to respond to any move by U.S. President Donald Trump on the 2015 nuclear agreement and the United States would regret a decision to exit the accord.

Trump has said unless European allies rectify "flaws" in Tehran's nuclear agreement with world powers by May 12 he will refuse to extend U.S. sanctions relief for Iran.

"We have plans to resist any decision by Trump on the nuclear accord," Rouhani said in a speech carried live by state television.

"Orders have been issued to our atomic energy organisation ... and to the economic sector to confront America's plots against our country," Rouhani told a rally in northeast Iran.

"America is making a mistake if it leaves the nuclear accord," Rouhani said.

Iran Nuclear Agreement: Rouhani and Macron in talks to save the Iran Nuclear Deal

French President Emmanuel Macron and his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, say they have agreed to work together over the next few weeks to preserve the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal despite threats by U.S. President Trump that he will pull out of it.

Following an hour-long phone call between the two leaders, Macron also said he hoped to broaden the discussions to include Tehran’s missile programmes, its nuclear activities beyond 2025 and the regional crisis in the Middle East.

The United States has been trying to drum up support for new sanctions against Iran, and has repeatedly threatened to tear up the agreement negotiated between six world powers.

Describing his phone conversation with President Obama as “historic,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took to Twitter on Friday with a series of a fascinating messages that stunned and encouraged many foreign policy observers.

“In phone convo, President # Rouhani and President @ BarackObama expressed their mutual political # will to rapidly solve the # nuclear issue,” Rouhani wrote to his 64,000 plus followers.

In another tweet, Rouhani noted that he ended his conversation with Obama by saying, “Have a Nice Day!” and that the Obama responded by saying, “Thank you. Khodahafez.”

The phrase is a common way of saying goodbye in the Persian language and is literally translated as, “"May God be your Guardian.”
