"J'accuse!" - How 'Europe' became a dirty word in the US election

As Florida goes to the polls in its primary election for the Republican presidential candidate, how did Europe-bashing become such an issue? 

"J'accuse!"

There is only one presidential contender fluent in the French tongue. But if Mitt Romney wins the US Republican nomination, he is likely to stick to plain English when he delivers what he hopes will be a killer blow against President Barack Obama in November's general election.

US Presidential Elections: Republicans blast Occupy movement at debate

"Go get a job right after you take a bath," Newt Gingrich told the audience at the "Thanksgiving Family Forum," when asked about activists protesting over the last two months in major US cities including New York and Washington.

The forum, organized by a number of right-wing Christian organizations, was attended by candidates Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Ron Paul, Herman Cain and Rick Santorum. Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman, both Mormons and more moderate candidates, did not attend. 

The protesters seek an overhaul to what they see as major socioeconomic inequalities fostered by mainstream US politics and systems of finance.

Another frontrunner in the race, former pizza boss Herman Cain, slammed the OWS movement by claiming that "freedom without responsibility is immoral."

US Presidential Elections: GOP debates will continue, but the real race is Obama vs. Romney

Forget the straw votes and most state polls. Forget the possibility that Herman Cain and Rick Perry could overcome their very different distractions over sexual harassment and inarticulateness. Forget Newt Gingrich’s current mini-surge, or that Ron Paul’s dedicated and enthusiastic following might somehow convince other Republicans to embrace his unique brand of libertarianism.

In the end, it’ll likely be Mitt Romney vs. Barack Obama in the 2012 president election.
