USA - the economy and the nation will face a "perfect storm" politically and economically:the 2020s will see 'real turmoil' as US debt woes come home to roost, says Gundlach - by Julia La Roche

Influential bond investor Jeffrey Gundlach, the CEO of $150 billion DoubleLine Capital, sees trouble brewing in the debt market, despite interest rates hovering near historic lows.

In a recent discussion with Yahoo Finance, Gundlach compared the current expansion to the boom that took place nearly 100 years ago. But the next decade will be the opposite of the roaring 1920s, he said, as the debt bomb the U.S. is sitting on becomes untenable in the next economic downturn.

"It's pretty interesting because the 20s in the 20th century, the 20s were super boom times. And weirdly, I think the 20s this time will be very much different than that, with real turmoil," the 60-year-old billionaire said in a recent wide-ranging interview with Yahoo Finance.

In Gundlach's view, the 2020s will see "the crescendo" of many unattractive trends that have been talked about for years, but finally come home to roost.

"[We're] going to have to face Social Security, health care, all of these things, deficit-based spending — all of that is going to have to be resolved during the 2020s because the compounding curve is just so bad," the billionaire added.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the federal deficit will top $1 trillion every year beginning in 2022. Yet Gundlach said the agency’s forecast may be too rosy, given that it assumes a "pretty benign future" with no recession and interest rates that are not very high.

Interest costs to the government, as a percentage of gross domestic product are expected rise from 1.25% to at least 3% by 2027. “That's a big, big increase. And that's coming,” the investor told Yahoo Finance.

“And when you do that, it kind of says, ‘Hey, GDP is going to be knocked by 2%-2.5% because we have to pay interest,’” he added.

Note EU-Digest: these economic problems will be compounded by a totally inept Trump Administration, which has turned the Republican party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan into a Trump loyalist party which is now based on State Planning and Crony Capitalism

British lawmakers: "Murdoch ’not fit’ to run big company" - Media Cartel Seen As Danger to Press Freedom and Privacy laws

Rupert Murdoch showed "willful blindness" about phone hacking at his News of the World tabloid and is not fit to run a major company, a British parliamentary committee said in a scathing report Tuesday.

The committee said the tycoon's British newspaper arm News International had misled parliament, adding that the 81-year-old tycoon and his son James, 39, should take corporate responsibility for wrongdoing at the paper.

"Rupert Murdoch is not a fit person to exercise the stewardship of a major international company," the cross-party culture, media and sport committee said in its long-awaited report on the scandal.

"In failing to investigate properly, and by ignoring evidence of widespread wrongdoing, News International and its parent News Corporation exhibited willful blindness, for which the companies' directors - including Rupert Murdoch and James Murdoch - should ultimately be prepared to take responsibility."

In fact, Murdoch's Media Corporate Cartel is a danger to Freedom of Expression and Privacy Laws. Lawmakers around the world are urged to take action to break up this cartel.

To get a grasp of the power the Murdoch's Media Empire holds over peoples opinion around the world by what they read, see or hear, a compiled a list of Murdoch's different assets in the global media world follows below.

How the U.S. and Europe drag each other down - by Ezra Klein

The financial turmoil in Europe certainly isn’t helping America’s own recovery effort. But the reverse is true as well: The stagnant U.S. economy is also putting a damper on Europe’s ability to get back on its feet. It’s a negative feedback loop that has exacerbated the downturn on both continents. And the danger is that this cycle could become self-reinforcing, not only dragging down those economies but also triggering a longer-term downturn in the global economy — one fed by multiple crises that don’t have any single solution.

The immediate cause of the European debt crisis is internal, the result of fundamental fiscal problems in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain that have had a ripple effect across the euro zone. But the U.S. recession has been yet another drag on the European economy, which could make its own financial recovery all the more challenging. The doubts about whether U.S. consumer spending will recover have weighed particularly heavily on Europe, one of the biggest U.S. trading partners, as its own growth has stagnated as well. More than half the companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index are overseas, for instance, with the majority of them in Europe. “It creates yet another level of uncertainty in a situation in Europe that’s already very, very fragile,” says Tu Packard, senior economist at Moody’s Analytics.
