A new, more contagious strain of Covid-19 is already in the EU, with Sweden closing its border to Denmark, on top of a UK cordon sanitaire.
"The new mutated virus has also been confirmed in Denmark and some other countries," Swedish home affairs minister Mikael Damberg said on Monday (21 December), announcing the border closure.

Medical Alert: Virus looks like flu, acts like flu, but it's not influenza
It looks like flu. It feels like flu. It even puts patients into the hospital like flu can. There’s another virus out there that could be adding to the seasonal misery, but it’s not being identified,
The virus is called adenovirus, and it can cause very severe flu-like symptoms. It’s so risky that the U.S. military vaccinates recruits against two major strains.
“Unless you look for it or you suspect it’s circulating or you are using diagnostic testing capabilities".
“On the basis of the severity of the clinical presentation of some cases in this study, the (adenovirus) vaccine currently licensed for military use should be considered a potentially valuable resource to prevent disease in susceptible populations living in closed communities, such as college settings, summer camps, and long-term care facilities,” they wrote in a report published this week in the journal
An outbreak of adenovirus killed 10 people in 2007. Kajon’s team tested college students at one campus during the severe 2014-2015 influenza epidemic and found 13 out of 168 students who came in for flu treatment had adenovirus infections.

Dangerous ‘Fireball’ Adware Infects a Quarter Billion PCs- by Andy Greenberg
Adware that infects your computer to display pop-ups is an annoyance.
But when it infects as many as one in five networks in the world, and
hides the capability to do far more serious damage to its victims, it’s
an epidemic waiting to happen.
The security firm Check Point has warned of a massive new outbreak: They count 250 million PCs infected with malicious code they’ve called Fireball, designed to hijack browsers to change the default search engine, and track their web traffic on behalf of a Beijing-based digital marketing firm called Rafotech. But more disturbingly, Check Point says it found that the malware also has the ability to remotely run any code on the victim’s machine, or download new malicious files. It’s potentially serious malware, disguised as something more trivial.
“A quarter-billion computers could very easily become victims of real malware,” says Maya Horowitz, the head of Check Point research team. “It installs a backdoor into all these computers that can be very, very easily exploited in the hands of the Chinese people behind this campaign.”

Phishing Virus Alert: Massive Phishing Attack Targets Gmail Users - by Alex Johnson
An unusually sophisticated identity phishing campaign targeted Gmail
users, seeking to gain control of their entire email histories and
spread itself to all of their contacts, Google confirmed Wednesday.
The worm — which arrived in users' inboxes posing as an email from a trusted contact — asked users to check out an attached "Google Docs," or GDocs, file. Clicking on the link took them to a real Google security page, where users were asked to give permission for the fake app, posing as GDocs, to manage users' email account.
To make matters worse, the worm also sent itself out to all of the affected users' contacts — Gmail or otherwise — reproducing itself hundreds of times any time a single user fell for it.
