Germany's economic outlook said improving

A survey of German finance professionals showed an improved outlook for the country's economy in December, buoyed by increased domestic orders, a report released Tuesday showed. The ZEW institute's monthly index, a closely watched indicator for Europe's biggest economy, rose 22.9 points to 61.6 points, from 38.7 points in November. That soundly beat the expectations of economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires who predicted a modest increase to 41 points. The institute said its poll of 317 finance professionals found that most companies had dismissed lingering fears that Chancellor Angela Merkel's new coalition government would not be able to mend the economy, Europe's largest. In its report, the institute found that more German companies were optimistic about the future because of an improved euro-dollar exchange rate, increased domestic and foreign orders and manufacturing improvements.
