EU Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 20 Years in Korea
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the EUCCK hosted a luncheon with Prime Minister Han Myung-sook, as well as other government officials and business representatives. When the EUCCK was established in 1986, few imagined that twenty years later its members would have secured the largest chunk of foreign direct investment into Korea. European investors today account for over half the FDI into this country. Between 1962 and 2005, Europe's investment stood at US$35.4 billion at the top of regional rankings.
The EU also represents the second-largest importer of Korean goods after the United States. At the ceremony marking 20 years of the EU Chamber's involvement in Korea, Han Myung-sook underlined the value of Korea-EU ties. "Korea and EU members share more than 100 years of partnership in just about every sector. And we would like to see stronger cooperation and friendship in the future,” she said. “Korea has high expectations about the EU Chamber's bridging role in strengthening bilateral economic ties."
