The database should be running the following five years, from 2007 to 2011 and will be the only one of its category in the hands of the European Audiovisual Observatory.

The European Commission has announced the creation of a database to obtain a 'better understanding and major transparency' regarding the audiovisual market. The data bank collects information about companies and over 4,500 television channels running in the European Union.

CE has said, 'It's essential to achieve these objectives for the audiovisual market to work'. Likewise, it will be proved whether the legislation of the member countries is upheld. The database is the major data collection ever regarding television sector in the European Union. The catalogue offers information about domestic, regional and local EU channels as well as about candidates such as Turkey and Croatia."
