France should work for a "much more offensive policy of protection, solidarity and regulation" at an EU level in order to better face globalisation, according to a report by former French foreign affairs minister Hubert Vedrine.French president Nicolas Sarkozy in July asked Mr Vedrine to draft a report on how the country should respond to the challenges of globalisation. The report comes at a time when the European Commission is trying to promote more openness and a positive view of globalisation, as well as less national champions.
But if the principles in the report are followed, it is set to be a blow to the commission's willingness to embrace globalisation.
