US Elections - Iowa vote sets stage for N.H. - Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama win Iowa Caucus
"The status quo lost, and change won," declared former North Carolina senator John Edwards, who barely edged out Clinton for second place. The results reshaped both contests and set up titanic battles in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday. At issue will be whether Obama can more clearly establish himself as the front-runner by repeating his victory in Iowa — and whether Romney can rebound to defeat Arizona Sen. John McCain, who has focused on the Granite State. In Iowa, Obama and Huckabee tapped voters' desire for change in Washington. Obama, a first-term senator who would be the first African-American to win a major-party nomination, dealt a big setback to Clinton, who has led national polls for a year. The former first lady's backers include her husband, Bill Clinton, and members of his administration. Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, campaigned with actor and fitness guru Chuck Norris. Romney, a millionaire businessman and former head of the 2002 Winter Olympics, was surrounded on the trail by his wife and five sons.
