Intel Balks At $1.5B E.U. Fine - by Parmy Olson

The European Competition Commission, headed by antitrust upholder "Nickel" Neelie Kroes, has levied a record fine of 1.1 billion euros ($1.5 billion) on the American chipmaker as punishment for its anti-competitive practices against AMD. Intel has come out fighting, promising to appeal the decision. Yet while the fine won't damage the company's ample cash reserves too much, a forced change to Intel's business practices could hurt more.
