Thousands have been evacuated from their homes by authorities in France and Spain. More than 1,200 firefighters are deployed in Gironde, a prefecture in Bordeaux, France. Thousands of hectares have burned in Portugal.
Two huge blazes have burned their way through pine forests for six days just south of the city of Bordeaux in southwestern France. The fires have forced the evacuation of some 14,000 people, including many who were on holiday in the area.
Firefighters in Spain were supported by the armed forces' emergency brigades in trying to extinguish more than 30 fires consuming forests across the country.

USA: Trump retweets call to fire Fauci amid coronavirus criticism
President Donald Trump
fueled more speculation about the future of Dr. Anthony Fauci on
Sunday, retweeting a conservative who called for the top infectious
disease specialist to be fired after he said in a CNN interview more
could have been done to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Amid
sustained criticism of Fauci from some of the President's allies in
conservative media, the message raised the prospect of Trump potentially
souring on a key member of his coronavirus task force.
Trump's initial handling of the crisis has come under increasing scrutiny as it's been revealed that administration and health officials were sounding alarms for weeks before Trump took decisive actions such as calling for social distancing measures.
Trump has disputed his administration was slow to respond and has called for the economy to be reopened quickly, potentially by the beginning of May, despite health officials' warnings that doing so could risk a resurgence.

The Netherlands: Fire shuts down Europe′s largest oil refinery in the Netherlands
Royal Dutch Shell has suspended loadings of oil products from the Pernis
refinery after a fire caused the shut down of most of its production.
The extent of damage is being investigated.
The night sky over the port of Rotterdam was alight after the blaze broke out Saturday at the high-voltage power station at Shell's Pernis refinery.
Shell spokesman Thijs van Velzen said the flames were extinguished by Sunday morning. Nobody was injured. Firefighters brought the fire under control by around 6 am (0400 GMT/UTC).

Russia: Blaze engulfs Europe's tallest building site
Huge flames danced for hours as a massive fire engulfed the top floors of an under-construction Moscow skyscraper that is set to be Europe’s tallest.
The fire at the eastern part of the Federation Tower complex was visible from much of the the city’s western half, but no injuries were reported in the blaze.
Two firefighting helicopters noisily circled the blaze, dumping huge buckets of water on the flames. The Emergencies Ministry said the fire was stopped from spreading by about 11.30pm (5.30am Tuesday AEST), some three hours after it began.
