Police in the Netherlands arrested a man after he hit and kicked a journalist outside a Protestant church that had opened for a full congregation on Sunday despite the country's strict lockdown.
Reporters showed up at the Mieraskerk church in the town of Krimpen aan den Ijssel near the city of Rotterdam.
The church made headlines after reports that it was going ahead with a service for its entire congregation. The Netherlands is under a strict lockdown and has a rising COVID-19 rate.

US Presidential Elections: WANNABE DICTATOR Trump is Openly Inciting His Deplorables to Commit Violence Against Journalists
No president in America's history has been more hostile to the press than Donald Trump. He repeatedly refers to them in Stalinist terms as the "the enemy of the people." That openly aggressive posturing is an unambiguous assault on the constitution's First Amendment. And Trump's vicious rhetoric has been cited as endangering the work - and lives - of journalists, not just in the United States, but around the world.
On Saturday Trump took another leap crossing over the line of decency and free speech during his latest Coronavirus Super Spreader event in Minnesota. Reading from his teleprompter, Trump told a story about a reporter covering Black Lives Matter protests in the state several weeks ago:
"I remember this guy Welshi. He got hit on the knee with a canister of tear gas and he went down. He was down. [...] After we take all that crap - for weeks and weeks they would take that crap - and then you finally see men get up there and go right through... Wasn't it really a beautiful sight? It's called law and order."Like virtually every story that Trump tells, almost none of this one was truthful. To begin with, the reporter's name was Ali Velshi, not Welshi. Perhaps Trump was using the Russian pronunciation. Secondly, Velshi was hit by a rubber bullet, not a tear gas canister. But those are relatively trivial misstatements by Trump who is rarely able to express himself coherently (which has not gone unnoticed by the American people).

Journalists in Turkey today vowed to continue to “write the truth” and
expose to the world the scale of state oppression after journalist
Berivan Altan was detained following a raid on her Ankara home.
Special forces, “holding long-barrelled guns” and with their faces covered by black ski-masks, broke into the Mesopotamia Agency reporter’s apartment, which she shares with journalist colleagues.
Jin News editor Habibe Eren, who was present during the raid, told the Star: “They seized our notes, books and technical equipment illegally while they were threatening us and insulting us.
“The extortionist mentality that has been going on for a long time is spreading to every aspect of our lives.”
Along with notebooks and computers, police also took copies of books by Idris Baluken and jailed former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-leader Selahattin Demirtas as evidence.
Ms Eren said that, amid the clampdown on democracy in Turkey, people wake up every day to detention operations with “not even a crumb of freedom of thought or expression left.”
But she remained defiant and vowed that journalists would continue writing the truth “no matter the price we have to pay,” and despite describing the whole country as a prison with pressure increasing every day.
“As a matter of fact, this is why they fear us. We write the facts with no fear whatsoever. Journalists who do not swear allegiance to [the Turkish state] and defend freedom will always exist.”
Mesopotamia Agency editor Deniz Nazlim condemned the detention of Ms Altan and said: “No form of pressure is strong enough to prevent a journalist from writing the truth.”
He told the Star: “We believe that the Turkish state’s policy of silencing journalists and hiding the facts cannot succeed. On the contrary, it will bring them closer to their end.”
Ms Beritan had been blocked from seeing her lawyers, while the charges against her are unknown.
Turkey under Erdogan's leadership has become the world’s biggest jailer of journalists, with a third of the world’s total.

Time Magazine Person of the year Award: : Khashoggi,murdered by Saudi Arabia and jailed journalists named Time's 'Person of the Year'
Time magazine on Tuesday named a group of journalists, including a
slain Saudi Arabian writer and a pair of Reuters journalists imprisoned
by Myanmar’s government, as its “Person of the Year,” in a cover story
headlined “The Guardians and the War on Truth.”
The honor went to a series of journalists including Reuters journalists Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, who the government of Myanmar convicted on Sept. 3 under the colonial-era Official Secrets Act in a case seen as a test of democratic freedoms in Myanmar.
Also honored was Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Khashoggi was killed two months ago at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul when he went there to collect documents for his forthcoming marriage.
The 95-year-old magazine also honored Maria Ressa, the founder of the Philippine news site Rappler that has been a frequent critic of that nation’s President Rodrigo Duterte, and the staff of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland, where a gunman shot and killed five people in June.
Time said it chose to honor journalism at time when the practice critical democracy is under threat both from governments and technological advances. Its annual distinction is intended to recognize the person, group, thing or idea that had the greatest influence on world events that year.

While Trump put sanctions on Turkey, a NATO partner, for not releasing a Christian Pastor, he has done nothing so far for the flagrant Human Rights violations by Saudi-Arabia, who captured a US Resident, Saudi Arabian Journalist, while he visited their Istanbul Consulate and possibly killed him.
When asked why he has not taken any action against Saudi Arabia, Trump said the US is selling billions of dollars of weapons to Saudi Arabia, and does not want to loose billions of sales to other countries

German -Turkey Relations: German journalist says Turkey court lifts travel ban
A German journalist and translator who is on trial in Turkey on
terror-related charges said Monday that Turkish authorities had lifted
her overseas travel ban.
"The reports about the lifting of my exit ban are correct," Mesale Tolu wrote on Twitter.
"I would like to thank my supporters and all those who sympathised with me and stood by my side to win my freedom."
An Istanbul court in December had conditionally released Tolu, 34, who was held for over half a year on charges of membership of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP), which is banned in Turkey as a terror organisation.
Under that ruling, she had to report to the authorities every week and could not leave Turkey.
With the latest verdict, she will be allowed to leave the country.
However Tolu wrote on Twitter that the next hearing in her trial is scheduled for October 16. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
In February, an Istanbul court ordered the conditional release of German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel after receiving an indictment from prosecutors seeking a prison sentence of up to 18 years.
The latest court ruling on Tolu comes amid a thaw in Turkish-German relations after months of sharp tensions.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said he was relieved by the "good news" that Tolu would be allowed to travel and called it "a step forward in improving our relationship with Turkey".
But he added in a statement that more steps must follow and said that "we continue to view critically many rule-of-law issues in Turkey and are addressing these openly with our Turkish counterparts".

Libya: Hands-On Training for Aspiring Libyan Journalists - by IWPR
“In Libya we are in need of young well-trained journalists,” Culture
Minister Habib al-Amin said. “We know journalism is not an easy job, but
we want to use it as a weapon that brings hope to us.”
The minister was speaking last week at the launch of a new Media Lab which will provide hands-on training for hundreds of Libyan journalism students who are about to take up careers in the country’s fast-growing media industry.
The Media Lab, the first “skills incubator” of its kind, was set up by IWPR in partnership with the University of Tripoli. It provides a modern learning environment with up-to-date television and radio broadcasting equipment, training studios and individual workstations where students will be able to create content under the tutelage of dedicated teaching staff.
“I’m very impressed by how it turned out. A few months ago it was completely empty, but now it is full of life and the hope of building a new media in Libya that starts from universities,” said Dr. Al-Madani Dakheel, head of the University of Tripoli.
A lab curriculum providing 100 hours of instruction for each student per year will supplement the existing four-year course of media studies at the universities, and give graduates a solid foundation in basic TV, audio and print/online production. In addition, up to 50 students will be selected for internships with IWPR’s media partners around Libya, giving them real-time newsroom experience. The trainees will go on to
join the first post-Gaddafi generation of professional journalists, operating in a difficult environment.
“The media in Libya was part of the revolution,” British ambassador Michael Aron said at the launch event. “We see that there were many incidents where journalists were threatened, kidnapped or even assassinated, and TV stations being attacked. Despite this, I encourage students to learn journalism and practice it, because Libya needs it.”

More demonstrations are expected in US cities tomorrow.
There are presently more journalists locked up in Turkey than anywhere in the world, leaving Iran and China scrabbling in the dust, with by most reckonings 103 reporters behind bars, as opposed to 42 in Tehran and 27 in China. More journalists were arrested in Istanbul in one morning over last Christmas than the Chinese managed all year.

Gulen the inspirational leader of Erdogan may preach openness and tolerance, but the movement run in his name is really a model of deceit and gradual establishment of Sharia law in Turkey.
This popular protest might be the last chance for all freedom loving Turks inside and outside the country to make a difference.
