OIL Reserves: Venezuela releases jailed Americans after talks with US - "when times are bad standards are low"

Gustavo Cardenas, an American citizen, and former executive of Citgo, the US-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state oil company.

All of them were handed lengthy jail sentences despite the US calling for their release. Last October, the US State Department said that they were being held as "political pawns."

Jorge Alberto Fernandez, a Cuban-American detained on terrorism charges for bringing a drone into Venezuela last year.

The EU and Venezuela: More Bad Advice

The “European Democracy Hub” (EPD) and the Carnegie Endowment’s Europe office have produced a new paper giving a considerable amount of bad advice on the situation in Venezuela.

The EPD is an association of 15 NGOs in 13 European countries. The new paper, written by Jonas Wolff, who is head of the research department on “intrastate conflict" at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt, is entitled “A New Framework for Dealing with Venezuela: From Democracy to Conflict Resolution.” It is thoughtful document, but the gist of it is delivered right in the introduction:

Venezuela kicks out EU envoy to protest sanctions

The South American country, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said on Wednesday.

The decision came after EU foreign ministers imposed sanctions on 19 leading Venezuelan officials over human rights violations and "undermining democracy."

"By instructions of the President Nicolas Maduro, the ambassador of the European Union in our country, Isabel Brilhante Pedrosa, is declared as 'persona no grata,' she has 72 hours to leave Venezuela," the foreign ministry said on Twitter.

Amazon fires: Brazil accepts extra planes from Chile to fight forest fires

The Amazon includes many more South American countries than just Brazil,which covers about 60% of the Amazon area.

The vast Amazon also includes Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, an overseas region of France.

These other countries, which together control 40 percent of the Amazon will be getting together soon to put forward their own unified plan to fight the raging fires.

Note EU-Digest: What nonsense, this hyped up rhetoric about the rekindling of the "cold war" ? Regardless of the fact that the US' and most Western countries morally backed Venezuela's opposition leader, the US would be out of its mind to get involved in a major confrontation with the Russians about Venezuela, with the elected President Maduro not only still in power, but also backed by the military, unless they have forgotten about what happened in Syria, in a similar situation.

The Netherlands - US Relations: Netherlands, U.S. agree on use of Curacao as possible aid hub for Venezuela

The Netherlands and the United States reached an agreement on Friday to use facilities on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao for possible distribution of aid to nearby Venezuela, Curacao’s prime minister said.

Theisland will only be used for civilian operations to deliver aid, such as food and medicines, to Venezuela if the Venezuelan government explicitly allows it, the Dutch Foreign Ministry said last month.

Note Almere Digest: A good idea, as long as the US does not use it as a "stepping stone" for a US "sponsored" military invasion of Venezuela.
