USA - Coronavirus Data Mismanagement: 'Flying blind': US failure to report vital coronavirus data is hobbling response

The United States is failing to report vital information on Covid-19 that could help track the spread of the disease and prevent the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans, according to the first comprehensive review of the nation’s coronavirus data.

The report, Tracking Covid-19 in the United States, paints a bleak picture of the country’s response to the disease. Five months into the pandemic, the essential intelligence that would allow public health authorities to get to grips with the virus is still not being compiled in usable form.

USA: Trump,"the Mismanager in chief" strikes again - As Trump talks tariffs, IMF warns protectionism will worsen a dire economic crisis by Don Pittis

There is no crisis so bad that mismanagement cannot make it worse.

That was the one of the key messages Wednesday as the International Monetary Fund sharply downgraded an already dire global economic outlook.

"This is an unprecedented crisis, and this is indeed the worst recession since the Great Depression," said IMF chief economist Gita Gopinath.

USA: Mismanaging the US Economy: How Trump Defeats Himself - by George R. Tyler

Whatever Donald Trump’s grievous failings on fact-based, empathetic leadership or his various failures on managing the coronavirus pandemic and displaying compelling leadership by mitigating racial division, it is another lost opportunity that is the only one that is truly surprising.

Trump’s failure to craft an effective economic response to the COVID 19 pandemic is extremely short-sighted for a politician who is otherwise so focused on the importance of a solid economic performance.

Trump and his Senate allies blocked food stamps and rejected adequate income support for U.S. households.

According to the Hamilton Institute, government assistance is currently replacing only about half of salaries and wages lost to COVID 19.

The U.S. Census Bureau has found that 48% of households suffered income losses since mid-March and 33% expect lost work to reduce incomes in the month ahead.

US Economy Meltdown: Dow plunges over 2,000 points, oil collapses amid price war and coronavirus - by Jonathan Garber

U.S. equity markets tumbled Monday after an oil price war broke out between Saudi Arabia and Russia and amid new cases of coronavirus, especially in America.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed over 2,000 points lower, coming back from a point drop of more than 2,150 points, or 8.2 percent, at session lows while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were lower by 7.9 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.

Monday's sharp selloff, which caused the major averages to be temporarily halted due to volatility, caused the New York Federal Reserve to increase its daily cash injections into the banking system to $150 billion from $100 billion.

The stock-market's steep slide comes after a production dispute between OPEC members, led by Saudi Arabia, and Russia sent West Texas Intermediate crude oil, the U.S. benchmark, plunging by as much as 33.8 percent, the most since the outbreak of the 1991 Persian Gulf War, to a low of $27.34 a barrel in overnight trading. The energy component finished the day down 24.59 percent at $31.13 a barrel.

Note EU-Digest: This is what happens when you elect a President who is a complete "ignoramas", lies like there is no tomorrow, says he knows more about the Corona Virus than the medical profession, brags he is the best deal maker in the world, wants only "yes men" in his cabinet, and unfortunately, that is "only the top of the Trump iceberg drama".

Voodoo Economics: Central Banks as Relentless Boosters of the Rich - by Daniel Stelter

Crafty as they are, at no instance did central bankers miss an opportunity to justify their actions by the need to defend against deflation, i.e., falling prices.

They profess to fear a self-enforcing doom cycle, like the one that the world experienced during the Great Depression.

Alas, that depression was caused – like our crisis today – by too much debt. A modest amount of deflation in itself is not bad. Over decades, the United States and other European countries experienced falling prices and high employment – paired with impressive growth.

It is fascinating to see that even more than 30 years of mismanagement by central banks, with significant damage to the real economy, has not yet dispelled the “hope” of politicians, business leaders, financial markets and the broader population of our countries that recovery rests on the shoulders of the central banks.

In the next emergency, we will once again see pictures of Yellen, Draghi and Co. assuring us that they will “rescue” the world one more time with their interventions. In reality, they are poisoning us even more!

Canadian MPs criticize China's offer for Nexen

Some members of Parliament are calling China's offer to buy Nexen Inc. a bad deal for Canada.

The China National Offshore Oil Co. (CNOOC) has offered $15 billion for the Calgary-based energy company. That offer is currently under review by the federal government.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May raised her concerns Tuesday about the deal. “When is someone going to talk about national security? We’re talking not about a commercial venture.  We’re not talking about a private sector operation coming from China. We’re talking about a state-owned operation of communist China,” she said.

Note EU-Digest: It's not only Canada which has been selling corporations which are important to the long term national security and economic well being. Solar energy, Wind-power energy, Communications, Space exploration and the list goes on and on. It is basically a situation which has gone completely out of control because of  greed and government's mismanagement of sensitive national security issues in relation to the Peoples Republic of China.
