EU policymakers upbeat on economic outlook - by David Milliken and Marja Novak
LJUBLJANA – European policymakers struck a confident note on Monday about the euro zone's growth and inflation outlook for this year, at a conference to celebrate Slovenia's entry to the currency bloc.
Their optimism was backed by a rise in European stocks to near six-year highs and a firmer euro, despite muted growth in euro zone factory production which pointed to some loss of momentum late last year. “Slovenia is entering a currency union that is in good shape,” ECB Executive Board member Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell told the conference. “Economic activity is now expanding robustly and employment is growing at a healthy pace.”
