EUROPE has "no rational reason to fear recession," the European Commission's president claimed yesterday. Jose Manuel Barroso made the comments before attending a meeting of eurozone finance ministers to discuss plans to steer the continental economy through an expected rocky year ahead. Barroso warned against too much pessimism, saying Europe was not facing the same problems as the US and did not need emergency measures like US plans to spend billions to boost the economy.
