Today is election day in America and also a day maybe to reflect on the future of America in a more spiritual way. Max Lucado once wrote:
"A prison of pride is filled with self-made men and women determined to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, even if they land on their rear ends. It does not matter what they did, or to whom they did it, or where they will end up; it only matters that "I did it my way". You probably have seen the prisoners in this prison of pride. If not, maybe for some, all they have to do is look into a mirror."
As millions of Americans pull that lever today we can only hope they are not pulling that lever in revenge, but rather with the sense that they know America is in trouble and that they are the main culprits. Their excessive spending on consumer products, their wasteful use of the environment, their failure to regulate their out of control financial and corporate community.
Max Lucado probably says it best, "Blessed are those who know they are in trouble and have enough sense to admit it."
