ISRAEL: Netanyahu on Collision course with EU

‘The EU is providing considerable support, including financial assistance, to ensure the building of the institutions and infrastructure of a future Palestinian state. These achievements should not be put at risk by not meeting obligations regarding the timely and transparent transfer of tax and customs revenues’, said European Foreign Policy Chief, Federica Mogherini.

On April 1st 2015, the Palestinian Authority will become the 123rd member state of the International Criminal Court giving it the facility to bring war crime charges against the Israeli government. This action to obtain justice has panicked Netanyahu whose illegal reaction against the PA has acutely embarrassed the White House – but not the US congress.

The Political Zionist doctrine of the Netanyahu government that claims the whole of former Palestine as being a ‘gift from God’ is essentially ideological fundamentalism i.e. a ritualistic reading of scripture and a reliance upon dogma – a position also known as ‘extremism’.

It is this fundamentalist ideology that gives the state of Israel its sole claim to the West Bank and East Jerusalem – which position it relies upon exclusively in its assertion that its policy that has persuaded half a million of its citizens to settle on Palestinian land is legitimate when the entire international community has branded it a violation of international law.

The paradox in the status quo established by the Likud government to back-up its claim to the occupied
Palestinian Territories, is that Israel actually claims to be a secular state.

This means that its claim to the West Bank and East Jerusalem is merely a fabricated position used to justify that which is unjustifiable.

Political or religious extremism is unacceptable to the democratic nations of the world in the 21st century, and the UN Security Council should pass a resolution to that effect. In the event that any UNSC member would use its veto against such a resolution then it will be clear to all as to where the illegality lies; who supports and fuels the conflict and who it is that ensures the continuity of the illegal settlements and the dispossession of the oldest continuous indigenous people of the region, the Palestinian Arabs who have farmed and lived on the land for over a thousand years.

Fundamentalism either in Paris, London, Jerusalem or Hebron needs to be dealt with in an appropriate manner by democratic governments. We have all seen the damaging violence that such extremist beliefs can bring to the community of free nations.

Action is needed now to root-out fundamentalism wherever it rears its head – regardless of the attitude of any state or party that overtly, or covertly, supports such violence

Middle East: Israeli "failure" UN part of ongoing political oversight says Tzipi Livni

Israel's expected "failure" at the UN General Assembly on Thursday is the result of ongoing political oversight, The Tzipi Livni Party leader Tzipi Livni said Wednesday, ahead of the Palestinian bid for a status upgrade.

"When Israel does not instigate and lead initiatives, initiatives are forced upon it," she said.

Engaging in a political process with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, and striving for an agreement is our interest, that would preserve Israel as a Zionist, Jewish and democratic state, she continued.

"Within two weeks, the world will recognize - because of the failures of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government - a Hamas state in Gaza, and a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders," she added.

MKs respond to Netanyahu's speech - by Gil Hofman

Within moments of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu exiting the House Chamber after his speech to a joint session of the United States congress, Israeli MKs from all sides of the political spectrum were weighing in with their reactions.

"Netanyahu didn't say anything new," said Kadima MK Shaul Mofaz. "He has no plan; he is leading us to a conflict with the world in September and if the people of Israel have a choice between conflict and elections, I'm confident that they will choose elections."

NOTE EU-Digest: Regardless of what one may think about Nethanyahu's speech in the US Congress today, the fact remains that Israel basically is the only real Democracy in the Middle East and must not be forced by its Western allies to capitulate to those who want its destruction or to those who do not want to recognize them as a state.
