With Republicans stonewalling for years on any significant federal gun safety legislation, some states are now rushing to take steps themselves following large-scale shootings in New York and Texas this month.

Democrats in some blue states are making fresh efforts to reinvigorate proposals toward what gun control advocates call “evidence-based policy interventions”.

In New Jersey, Democratic governor Phil Murphy singled out four Republican state lawmakers opposing gun safety and accused them of taking “blood money” while urging them to pass a stalled gun control package that included raising the age to 21 for purchases of long guns

A lively party inside the store turned to chaos. Children covered their ears to blunt the jarring sound of gunfire as they ducked for cover. A mother rushed in with her little girl, the glass door to the market shattering, according to store surveillance video. The girl’s mom tried to avoid the gunfire as she carried her little girl, but the child still was struck.

USA Gun Control: Many Christian Groups Favor Stricter Gun Laws

A new survey shows many Christian groups favor stricter gun control laws. 

The Public Religion Research Institute found that 76 percent of minority Protestants, 67 percent of Catholics, and 57 percent of white mainline Protestants support stricter gun control.

White evangelicals are on the other side of the fence with 59 percent opposing new gun laws.

But there is common ground among Christians. When asked, "What's the most important thing that can be done to prevent mass shootings," better mental health screenings and support was the most popular answer.
