"Transparent public procurement vital to EU integration

Efficient supply chain management is vital to the integration of the European Union, according to Italy's ambassador to Turkey, a country hoping to become a member state.
Transparency and competitiveness are vital to a successful procurement programme, ambassador Carlo Marsili told delegates in Ankara on Friday during accession talks. The continued process of rooting out fraud and corruption to create an efficient and effective public supply chain are also imperative, he continued.
"The strengthening of the procurement system represents a cornerstone for Turkey," the Italian ambassador said, reiterating his country's view that "a true EU cannot exist without Turkey", the Turkish Daily News reports.
