Europe Economy to Maintain Growth Pace says Almunia - by Ben Sills
Europe's economy will sustain its growth pace in the face of financial-market turbulence and may even expand this year more quickly than forecast, European Union Economic Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said.
``I think the growth forecast will be maintained within a decimal point either way,'' Almunia said in a speech today in Madrid. The European Commission, the EU's executive body in Brussels, forecast in May that the economy of the 13 nations that use the euro would expand 2.6 percent this year and outpace the U.S. for the first time since 2001.
