Table Tennis: Europe’s leading female players attended a joint China – Europe table tennis training camp
Chinese female dominance in the sport of table tennis is fact. If you had told the wise and wonderful in 1955, when Romania’s late Angelica Rozeanu captured her sixth consecutive Women’s Singles title at the World Championships in Utrecht, no other European would win the coveted crown in the century, then there would have been cries of derision. Prior to the China Open in Tianjin which commenced on Wednesday 12th August 2009, the latest stop on the 2009 ITTF Pro Tour, many of Europe’s leading female players attended a joint China – Europe Training Camp in the Tongzhou and the first reports are very positive. “A huge step forward”, enthused Jörg Bitzigeio, the National Coach of the German Women’s Team. “The ten days over here were absolutely first class and very valuable.” Members of the Chinese National `B’ Team and the leading players from Jiangsu Province were all present, thus the level of practice was intense and with perfect conditions being afforded everyone benefited from the concept. A welcome visitor was Shi Zhihao, the Head Coach of the Chinese Women’s Team, he was supported by six coaches from the Chinese Women’s `A’ team who watched the players in action and made constructive suggestions.
