President Barack Obama is leading the polls in several battleground states but Republican challenger Mitt Romney is catching up in a tight U.S. election race.
With four days left until Americans head to the voting booths, pollsters and pundits are closely watching the match between Obama and Romney in states that have a history of swinging between Democrats and Republicans.
The latest poll showed that in Iowa, which has emerged as an important swing state this year, Obama is at 50 per cent, six points ahead of Romney, who has 44 per cent among those who have already voted or are likely to do so, according to the NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist College poll. In New Hampshire, the president leads 49 per cent to 47 per cent.
And the difference is going to be razor-thin overall: the nationwide tracking poll gave each candidate 49 per cent.
