Bangor's location is a natural for International trade |
"Unfortunately, in 2003 that
industry became nearly extinct as a result of economic conditions. Galt Block's warehousing services, based on wide open space buildings to service that industry, obviously were hard hit".
Fortunately, Galt
Block, because of its good reputation survived many of the problems which
followed and was quickly able to
establish partnerships with new entries into the paper industry.

“The
changes also led to new ideas and diversification”, says Carolyn.
“One of them was that we transformed
our high, open warehouse facilities into one which also had freezer capacity to service other strong industries in the state, like those in
the seafood and agricultural sectors. This was also the beginning of "Galt Block
Refrigerated Warehouse” which provided customenrs with:
-
State of the art refrigerated warehousing storage.
-
Cross-docking and trans-loading, pooled and consolidated shipping, freight arrangements, import/export services, container loading and unloading.
-
Rail car loading/unloading, international air charter and break-bulk ocean transport services available.

Soon the new venture also turned into an international business for Galt
Block, which presently services inventory from Canada,
Europe, South America and Antarctica .
“Looking
ahead, and with the re-development of rail in Maine, it certainly is not unrealistic to expect that frozen food for and from Canada, Europe and even the Far East could soon also be coming through Bangor”,
says Carolyn. “
“Bangor's
location is a natural for International trade. With this in mind we
at Galt Block are constantly looking for like minded associate partners at home and abroad
to continue this growth.“
