Norway: Traffic in Stavanger a business money-drain - by Ellen Kongsnes

Stavanger has labour and housing shortages, as well as road transport system deficiencies that could hinder future growth.

A nationwide business association survey in Norway’s larger cities shows one of the biggest problems for companies is losing money on traffic, standstills, ferries, and inadequate public transport.

6 of 10 companies in the Stavanger region answer "yes" to the question about whether their company has incurred financial losses or increased costs due to traffic delays. Half of them say these are between 30 minutes and two hours daily. Two of the ten companies in the Nord-Jæren district (northern Jæren) lose over four hours a day to queues.

“It's really serious. It’s ten percent higher than the rest of the country, meaning traffic is a major problem in our region, says Harald Minge, CEO of the Stavanger Region’s Chamber of Commerce.
