A new bridge between Turkey and Greece

The growing friendship between Turkey and Greece in recent years has yielded concrete results. Greek entrepreneurial investment in Turkey's banks and the trade volume between the two countries has reached $2 billion, the fruit of conciliatory steps taken between the late Turkish Foreign Minister İsmail Cem and his Greek counterpart.

An agreement between Turkey and Greece to construct a new bridge over the İpsala-Kipi border, signed on June 10, 2006 by Turkish Foreign Minister Abdüllah Gül and Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis, is awaiting expected approval by the Turkish Parliament.

Trade volume between the two countries, a mere $800 million in 2002, reached $2 billion in 2005.
