A senior European Union official says the bloc's members should allow China to make private investments in their countries in return for Beijing's support during the eurozone's sovereign debt crisis.
China has in recent months pledged its backing for highly indebted European countries, though officials have revealed few details about what it is doing to help.
The EU and China are working on a possible treaty to increase bilateral investment and end trade disputes.
