The European Union Wednesday provided more than US$100 million to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries aimed at deepening the regional integration movement.
CARICOM Secretary General Irwin La Rocque and the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Ambassador Robert Kopecký, signed the financial agreements at the Guyana-based CARICOM Secretariat.
La Rocque said that the EU support comes at a time when regional governments have declared their determination to ensure that integration delivers tangible results Caribbean people of the Caribbean.
He said the first agreement, estimated at EURO 8.6 million (US$11.4 million) provides support for the economic integration and trade by the sub-regional Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
