India said on Thursday that talks to finalise an already much-delayed euro 9 billion ($12-b) deal to buy 126 fighter jets from France's Dassault Aviation could take many more months.
The price negotiations alone could take about eight months and there would be "several other stages of scrutiny" before the deal to buy Dassault's Rafale can be closed, Defense Minister A.K. Antony said.
Dassault won the right to enter exclusive negotiations with India to supply 126 fighters after lodging a lower bid than its rival Eurofighter for a tender with an estimated value of $12 billion.
The Rafale, a modern multi-role jet built by Dassault Aviation, has been selected by India as its preferred next generation interceptor, but details of the immense contract remain to be ironed out.
