A shower to freshen up? Perhaps a shave, too? Could do with losing a day’s worth of stubble. Maybe splash on some Rochas Homme? All this at the upper deck of this beautiful and huge A-380-800 which contains business class and first class – it also comprises amazing suites with sliding doors – and it is, unsurprisingly, impressive.

Then a four-course lunch? Catch up with the news or watch one of the latest movies?  You could also relax at the bar but while it’s 5 o’clock somewhere in Europe it’s a bit early in the Persian Gulf.

Or should I be a good boy and sit at my desk with my laptop and get some work done?
It feels like I’m in a top-end hotel – but this is a plane, the upper level of a ­double-decker Emirates airline Airbus A380-800 on flight number 003 from Dubai to Heathrow.

It is the superjumbo of the skies and I’d been keen to get on one for ages. The first time I saw one was a few years ago on a contraflow in Toulouse past the Airbus factory (yes, the French do occasionally have roadworks on their splendid autoroutes).
