Europe's EADS wins big U.S. helicopter competition - by Andrea Shalal-Esa
WASHINGTON, June 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. Army on Friday said it chose French-German defense company EADS (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) for a helicopter contract expected to be worth over $2 billion over the longer term, in the first big U.S. defense contract won by the North American unit of EADS as a prime contractor.
Analysts said the U.S. contract to build 322 light utility helicopters could also help EADS win more commercial and government orders for its twin-engine UH-145 rotary wing aircraft.
