Exports power Europe's economy to higher growth
A strong export performance helped to power fourth-quarter economic growth higher in the European Union during the fourth quarter with the EU again outpacing the US economy's expansion rate, data released Tuesday showed. Drawn up by the European Commission's statistics office, Eurostat, the figures showed economic growth in Europe coming in at 0. 9 per cent during the final three months of the year compared to the third quarter, when it expanded by 0. 6 per cent.
This compared to a fourth-quarter rise in the US of 0. 6 per cent and a 1. 2 per cent expansion rate in Japan during the last three months of the year.
