Is Boeing's Dreamliner Turning into a Nightmare?
Disappointed airlines are demanding compensation after Boeing announced the third major delay for its Dreamliner 787 plane on Wednesday. Germany's business dailies assess the problems at Boeing and contrast them with the troubles at its European rival, Airbus.
To date, Boeing has booked 892 orders from nearly 60 customers, making the backlog worth $151 billion (€96 billion). The company has not said how much it expects to have to fork out in penalties for late deliveries.The delays have largely been caused by the decision to outsource much of the manufacturing of components for the new plane. This has caused difficulties, with Boeing being unable to monitor mistakes and delays at the supplier companies.
