Politics in Britain are about to be transformed as the parties gear up for the May 6 elections by adopting U.S. policies, personnel and practices.
American ideas are already shaping the campaign - from a sudden surge in attack ads to attempts to harness the Internet to energize grassroots activists; from hiring top U.S. pollsters and strategists to staging Britain's first U.S.-style presidential debates among party leaders.
British political observers speculate the Internet may already have transformed their country's politics - Facebook already has more than 21 million users in Britain, almost as many as voted in the last general election. As a result, all parties intend to pour resources into the Internet and social media to create buzz for their campaigns.
Note EU-Digest: Instead of holding national elections it might be best for Britain and good riddance for the EU if Britain puts in a request to the US to join them as their 51st state.
