Locked away for hours in the Cabinet Offices negotiators from the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives pored over a possible deal that could establish a workable government. However, there was no agreement other than to continue talks for another day at least.
There are sharp differences of policy over defence, Europe and especially electoral reform, but both sides have spoken of amicable and productive talks.
