t’s speeding up now. Against a backdrop of the markets getting ready to open Monday morning, the talks between the Tory and Lib Dem leaderships are getting somewhere fast. William Hague sounded upbeat outside the talks at the cabinet office Sunday morning — and the suggestion is that Clegg and Cameron are hitting it off.
There is deep anger running through the Conservative Party — intermingled with stunned confusion. One baffled Tory said to me he can’t work out whether Cameron is the contemporary Baldwin or Ramsay MacDonald betraying his party.
