France - Morocco: Hollande hails Morocco’s path to democracy

Morocco is taking “decisive steps” towards democracy, French President François Hollande said Thursday in a speech to the country’s parliament. Hollande also called for a solution to the long-running conflict over the Western Sahara.

After an early visit to Casablanca's vast Hassan II seafront mosque, Hollande headed to Rabat for a marathon day of meetings, notably with Islamist Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane.

Speaking in parliament, Hollande highlighted the "stability" of the north African country and the "tolerance" guaranteed in the new constitution, which he said "recognised the diverse character of Morocco's identity."
