Hummer to carry a Ferrari on Cannonball Run across Europe- by Andrew Picken
HIS fellow competitors will be driving Ferraris and other luxury sports cars. But the aptly-named Tony Ferrari will be taking on the jet-setters in a race across Europe - in a four-wheel-drive Hummer.
The high-speed adventure, which started yesterday, will see the managing director of a Newbridge-based distribution company covering 1500 miles in just 72 hours. The endurance road trip involves around 90 drivers from across the UK taking 40 high-powered cars on a three-day trip through Europe. Mr Ferrari - the only representative from Scotland taking part in the race - today conceded that his American military-style wheels may be a touch sluggish in an impressive field packed with Lamborghinis and Porsches. He said: "The Hummer shouldn't really stand a chance against all these top sports cars, so for me it's all about raising money for a worthy cause while taking part in an exciting road adventure.
