I am so proud of being British, but I am also proud of being a European; the medal tally for the EU really does show how much soft power Europe projects, and is a hint as to ware the real economic and political power lies in the world.
Add to the fact that Europe has a bigger economy than the US or China and that our combined standing army is one of the largest in the world, it makes one realise that the EU is a silent super power, destined to become a mega power in the next 50-100 years! All we have to do is get our act together.
Technologically, Europe is every bit as advanced as the US and is ahead of China; we have a space program, lead in many scientific fields, have a cultural impact that is global, have some very advanced technology in the Hadron Collider, the type 45 destroyer, and Astute class submarines of the RN and have world beating companies like Airbus, Roles Royce, BMW, and so on.
I feel Britain should take a more constructive role in leading and shaping the EU so that this future mega power is more like us than the French or Germans and that smaller countries like Latvia and Croatia are assured a bigger say.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still very pro-British, but I just cant see how we make the EU a better place if we are not fully engaged and not fully involved
