The head of the French employers' federation called for an urgent programme of reform to boost the economy and safeguard social welfare in remarks after voters had rejected the European Constitution.
Ernest-Antoine Seilliere, the president of Medef, also told a press conference after the sweeping referendum rejection of the constitution that the "no" vote "weakens the French economy, France and Europe".
Seilliere said Monday that the Medef was calling for "the immediate, fast-track application of a programme of reforms to re-establish the economic situation and prevent the system of social protection from deteriorating".
