Airbus Expects $12-Billion Demand from Turkey
TOULOUSE - Laurent Rouaud, the Vice President of the Market Forecasts & Research Airbus SAS, said Turkey’s economy was one of the top ten rapidly growing economies in the world and they expect a total of $24-billion (263 planes) demand from Turkish companies within the next 20 years. Rouaud reported they expected $12-billion part of this amount to be made to Airbus.
Rouaud, who gave a briefing in Toulouse, France, said a 36-plane order by Turkish Airlines (THY) last year was very crucial for them. The Airbus’ vice president noted they owned 50 percent of the aircraft market in Turkey. Rouaud, emphasizing they made the first industrial agreement with TAI in 1998, continu
ed that this company produced A320 panels and that they extended the agreement last year. He informed the new contract’s value reached $100 million. Rouaud also noted PFW aviation Industry Company established in Izmir, Turkey in 2003 produced some tanks and ground structures for the A320. Underlining Turkey will be the fifth fastest growing economy of the world; Rouaud said that TAI, PFW, Lisi Aerospace and Airbus provide Turkey a business volume of $17 million annually. Economists think inflation has dropped, we will see the highest growth rate of Europe in Turkey, he maintained. Rouaud also added that the Airbus’s market share in Turkey that was 14 percent in 1984 reached upto 50 percent within the last 20 years.
