Tony Blair is due to spend a second day meeting some of his European counterparts as he tries to reach a deal over the EU budget. The UK's first 2007-13 budget proposal envisaged an 8bn euros (£5bn) rise in UK contributions over the period. But it was rejected on Wednesday with many countries calling for bigger cuts to the UK's annual rebate. Mr Blair is to discuss the crisis with the leaders of Greece, Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg and the Irish Republic. The UK prime minister had appointments with the prime ministers of Portugal, Finland, Slovenia, Sweden and the Netherlands on Thursday.
